Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.

Bo Ryan Wisconsin 1-4 High Stagger Double by Wes Kosel

Here is a set play from former Wisconsin Badgers Head Coach Bo Ryan. Ryan was the head coach at Wisconsin from 2001-2015, winning 364 games in 15 years. In his entire career, he compiled a 747-233 record. Bo Ryan got his coaching start at the high school level in 1970’s and was an assistant at Wisconsin from 1976-1984. He then took over for NCAA Division III Wisconsin Platteville, and led them to four NCAA Division III National Championships (1991, 1995, 1998, and 1999). At Platteville, he won over 80% of his games and had two undefeated seasons. He never lost more than five games in a season from 1987-1999. In 1999, he took over at Wisconsin Milwaukee as the head coach and stayed there for two seasons. He then moved to Wisconsin as the head coach in 2001. At Wisconsin, he led the Badgers to back-to-back Final Four appearances (2014 and 2015), 3 Big 10 Tournament Championships, and 4 Big 10 Regular Season Championships. He was also named Big 10 Coach of the Year four different times (2002, 2003, 2013, and 2015).

1-4 High Stagger Double

The play starts with a pass to the right wing and a UCLA action between 5 and 1 (1 cuts to the block off of the back screen from 5 at the elbow. 2 then passes to 5 stepping out to the perimeter. Once 5 has it, 1 cuts off of a staggered screen on the left side of the floor from 4 and 3. If 1 gets the ball without a shot, 4 spaces out to corner and 3 now cuts off of the staggered screen from 2 and 5 on the right side. The action can continue as long as needed until a shot is open on the wing. The guards can look to curl the stagger as well.
