Bill Self Kansas Jayhawks Iverson Lob by Adam Spinella
One of the most common inbounds formations and sets is a Philly cut, where the inbounder gets the ball in and then comes off a screen at each elbow, going to the opposite wing. Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks put an interesting set play wrinkle on this series, specifically for Ben McLemore. Athletic swingmen will love this as a set play that will get them a lob opportunity curling off a back screen.
This play starts in a box set with the guards down and the bigs at the elbows. 3 comes across the lane to set a fake screen for 1. Instead of using it, 1 pops up the lane line and gets the inbound. 3 then clears to the corner.
2 comes off the Iverson cut (or Philly cut), looping over both 4 and 5 to the opposite wing. After he comes off the first screen, 5 sets a down screen for 3 to the deep corner. This is a dummy action, meant to occupy the weak-side defense. 2 will curl around the second of the Iverson screens to the rim, looking for the lob from 1.
