Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.



The Billy Donovan OKC Thunder stormed back to beat the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. I love some of these Billy Donovan OKC Thunder Plays as well as the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, and Toronto Raptors plays.

Billy Donovan is doing a pretty good job making the switch from College to the Pro’s. He has always followed the NBA more like a scout then a fan. He watched an enormous amount of NBA film in the pre-season and in the play-offs. His NBA relationships have helped him make the transition from college to pro ball. He was teammates with Rick Carlisle for one NBA season. Former Orlando Magic coaches Doc Rivers and Stan Van Gundy have always been helpful. Miami Heat Erik Spoelstra has influenced the offensive set plays that Coach Donvan used with the Florida Gators.

Billy Donovan’s switch to the NBA has resulted in a 55-27 record this season. He is only the third college coach to NBA coach in the past 30 years to take a team to the play-offs in his first year and only one in that period has won a play-off series. He has helped the OKC Thunder to the NBA’s second highest offensive rationg in the past five seasons only behind this year’s Golden State Warriors.

Billy Donovan has also had to deal with the loss of two assistant coaches this season too. Mo Cheeks missed time on the bench after undergoing hip surgery, and Monty Williams focused on his children after his wife, Ingrid, died in a car accident.

The jump from College to the NBA is a sorrid tale of coaches that didn’t understand it was a player’s league, who didn’t understand authoritarian ways don’t work and these are the coaches that failed: Rick Pitino, John Calipari, Mike Montgomery, Tim Floyd, Lon Kruger, and Jerry Tarkanian.

Brad Stevens’ success with the Boston Celtics after leaving Butler University in 2013 has eased the way for college coaches. Fred Hoiberg has had a rough time with the Chicago Bull this season and they thought that he would be a great fit there. You know know how it is going to work out.
