Mike Young Wofford Terriers Corner Pin Series

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Andy Kennedy Ole Miss Rebels Quick Hitters by Wes Kosel

Here are two plays from Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy used in the First Four game against BYU on Tuesday night. BYU came out hot in the first half, but Ole Miss endured the scoring storm by the Cougars and scored 62 points in the second half to top BYU 94-90. Ole Miss shot 60% from the field in the second half, and scored an impressive 42 points in the paint for the game. The Rebels out-rebounded BYU as well pulling down 16 offensive rebounds to BYU’s 6. Remarkably, Ole Miss was able to hold off BYU’s hot 3-point shooting (15-29) by taking more attempts than the Cougars (due to rebounding and turnovers). Stefan Moody helped the Rebels stretch out the Cougar defense, and M.J. Rhett had an outstanding game going 9 for 11 from the field. In these plays, Kennedy puts his quick guards in a position to attack the basket. If the defense steps up, the guards make the pass down to the post players for an easy dunk.

1 dribbles off of the high ball-screen from 4. 4 rolls to the basket and 5 pops. If 1 cannot turn the corner to score, he passes to 5. 5 quickly reverses the ball to 3 then follows the pass to set a ball-screen on the wing. 3 drives middle as 5 rolls to the basket. 4 steps back to get in a position to catch a pass if his defender helps on the penetration.

4 sets a pin down screen for 2. 2 curls the screen into the lane getting the pass from 1. 2 looks to shoot or score, but if X4 or X5 step up to help on the penetration 2 passes the ball to 4 or 5 stepping to the rim.
