All-Conference Guard Workout by Erick Blasing

Wow, the time has flown by, high school football practices are starting and the high school summer basketball season is nearly over. Depending on the state that you live in, summer contact restrictions for high school coaches are nearly as frustrating as the recruiting regulations for the NCAA.

In Wisconsin, where I was a head coach for the past four seasons (I will be an assistant in another program this coming season) we had an official contact period of 5 days, 5 DAYS from June through July 31st. That being said, it was nearly impossible to get a lot of productive sustained work done by the high school staff as we had to rely on outside influences to coach much of our summer periods, To make this more frustrating, in neighboring states such as Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa coaches often had 20 or more days. This was increasingly frustrating since we regularly competed in our weekly summer league against teams and their full varsity staff from high schools in Minnesota and Iowa.

As it was, this forced us to rely on giving players as many resources as possible to increase their skill level on their own. During my second season, I created the Gym Rat Series and two levels – All-Conference Guard Workout & All-American Guard Workout. I hope that sharing these will help you as you prepare for the Fall workouts and maybe start to improve your summer plans for 2016.

I have included today the All-Conference Guard Workout. I designed and compiled this with the average high school player in mind. I will share the All-American workout for those over-achievers soon.

Enjoy and remember that you may be the only person able to make a positive impact in your players lives. Take advantage of this underrated opportunity to impact lives.
