All Access Purdue Basketball with Matt Painter

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Coach Painter emphasizes four basic parts of the game and structures his practice around them.

Half-court defense

Rebounding

Taking care of the ball

Transition defense

Painter sets the tone of each practice by starting out with his defensive breakdowns. He dissects Purdue’s man-to-man defense with a variety of drills and exercises.

Painter’s practices include post and perimeter skill work, transition motion, secondary break, free throw work, man defense, shell work, motion offense and much more.

Painter ends each practice with a competitive drill including a rebounding drill (Rebound War), a shoot out (No Man’s Land) and a limitation drill (60 Point Drill).

Get your team into championship form with breakdowns, one-on-one teaching and competitive drills.
