5 High Set Plays – Man Offense by Wes Kosel
Both of these plays start in a semi-five out with 2 and 3 on the wings, 5 at the top of the key, and 4 in the short corner. These plays can be used to get your 4 or 5 man the ball in a scoring situation. More and more bigs (4’s and 5’s) are able to face up on the perimeter now, and this is a great series to get either your 4 or 5 facing up for a shot, drive to the basket, or drive and kick opportunity. The high ball screen in both plays can force x5 to have to help on the drive by the point guard leaving one of the scoring options open in the play. It is important to have a good point guard that can read the action and find the open man. These plays are called 5 high with the 5 starting at the top of the key.
5 High Iso
This play is for the 4 man. 1 dribbles from right to left off of a high ball screen from 5. 5 rolls to the rim hard and 2 cuts across the floor to the left corner creating an overload on the left side. As 5 rolls, 4 replaces high to the top of the key. If x4 has to help on 5’s roll, 4 may be open for a shot. If not, 4 can look to rip and drive right past his defender as he is attempting to closeout.
5 High Pop
This option can be used as a counter to get 5 the ball on the perimeter instead of 4. As 1 comes off of the high ball screen from 5, 4 cuts across the lane and posts up hard on the left block. 1 drives left and 5 pops for a shot. From here, 5 can shoot, drive to the rim, drive and kick, or go into a two-man action with 2 on the right side (follow ball screen or dribble handoff).
