I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. Phil Martelli is a coaching veteran of Saint Joseph’s and has been a thorn in Archie Miller’s side for some years. Check out these 2017 Phil Martelli Nike Championship Basketball Clinic Notes!

Coach Phil Martelli has been at Incarnation school in Centerville recently watching his daughter, Leah, who is in the sixth grade. Don’t think that the meeting was perchance with Archie Miller.

Coach Martelli has been speaking to their high school team. He also talked to a speech class. Archie Miller has a daughter that goes there too.

Coach Martelli has done more with less than any coach in the A-10. Archie Miller might have taken a job with the University of Indiana, but he respects Coach Phil Martelli for the way that he has maintained his program all these years.

Coach Phil Martelli is a big fan of Archie Miller!

Coach Martelli, has known Archie Miller for a very long time. Coach Martelli has worked his way from the bottom up. He played Division III basketball at Widener University then started coaching high school at Bishop Kenrick High School in Philly.

Coach Martelli was given a restricted-earnings job at St. Josephs and taught in-school suspension on the side to make ends meet. After ten years, He worked his way up the ladder to the associate head coach and finally the head job.

It was the opportunity of a lifetime that he hasn’t forgotten in 22 years as the head coach of the St. Joseph’s Hawks. He had a 413-286 record and been the A-10 coach of the year multiple times and national coach of the year once.

He got to know Coach Archie Miller as a very young assistant coach. Coach Miller was always appreciated of Coach Martelli.

Coach Miller thought that Coach Martelli’s teams play at a great pace and that they were very hard to prepare for. He never had anything bad to say about the man.
