Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.

2016 Rising Coaches Clinic Notes – Butler Chris Holtmann

Here are some clinic notes from the 2016 Rising Coaches Conference from Butler Head Coach Chris Holtmann’s presentation. Holtmann has been the head coach at Butler for two seasons, taking over after Brad Stevens left for the Boston Celtics and interim Head Coach Brandon Miller took a medical leave of absence. Holtmann’s interim tag was removed in January of 2015 and in two seasons with Butler has posted a 45-22 record. Holtmann started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Taylor, in 1997. He then was an assistant at Geneva (1998-1999) and Taylor (1999-2003) before taking an assistant job at Gardner-Webb in 2003. He would go to Ohio as an assistant in 2008, and get his first head coaching job at Gardner-Webb in 2010. In 2013, Holtmann went to Butler as an assistant and took over as head coach in 2014. The 2016 Rising Coaches Clinic Notes from Coach Holtmann include some great insights on coaching influences, lessons he has learned in coaching, and some other ideas. Below are a few of the highlights from Coach Holtmann’s presentation.
