2015 PGC/Glazier Clinic: Jerry Krause Gonzaga Zone Offense
Attached are two zone plays from Gonzaga Director of Basketball Operations Jerry Krause. Krause just completed his 13th year as Director of Operations at Gonzaga, and his 20th at Gonzaga as a part of the men’s basketball staff. His initial stint at Gonzaga was in 1985-1992 as an assistant coach. Krause was also the head coach at Eastern Washington from 1967-1985. In 17 seasons, he compiled a 259-193 record and a .573 winning percentage. This season, Gonzaga lost to eventual National Champion Duke in the Elite 8. Gonzaga won 35 games and ranked in the top 10 in points per game (79.1 ppg) and 1st in field goal percentage (52.4%). Krause has authored numerous books, produced instructional videos, and has spoken at clinics all over the country. These zone plays are from the 2015 Denver PGC/Glazier Clinic. During the clinic, Krause went over zone concepts, principles, and strategies.
2015 PGC/Glazier Clinic: Jerry Krause Gonzaga Zone Offense: Triple Option
In this play, 5 and 4 start by sprinting up to the top of the zone and screening the outside defenders. 1 dribbles to the left as 2 pops out to the top of the key. 5 and 4 roll after setting the screens up top. The initial option in the play is to pass to 4 posting up on the roll. Option 2 is to pass to 2 at the top of the key and let him play 1 on 1. Option 3 is to reverse the ball to 3 on the weak-side wing for a shot.

In this play, 1 dribbles to the left pushing 2 into the lane. 3 replaces 1 and 2 chooses whether to cut off of 5 or 4 for a shot. 2 can also cut up the middle of the lane for a pass into the middle of the zone.
Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Andy Partee at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Kosel joined the staff at Colorado College after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. The Bartlesville, OK native is also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a certified personal trainer (NSCA-CPT), and taught weight training and aerobic fitness courses while coaching at Texas Lutheran. He has coached AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, University of Houston, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
