2011 Nike Pittsburgh Basketball Coaching Clinic Notes

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

2011 Nike Pittsburgh Basketball Coaching Clinic Notes

The Nike Pittsburgh Basketball Coaching Clinic Notes feature a ton of NCAA Division 1 coaches that you learn about. Alan Stein talked about Off-season Strength and Conditioning. Brad Stevens will talk about Shooting Statistics and Skill Work. Mark Few will share his knowledge of using the three point shot vs man and zone defenses. Coach Don Showalter shared his pressing defenses and press breaker. Jim Boeheim talked about his 2-3 match-up zone defense and running game. Mike Anderson talked about how to up-tempo your offensive attack. Frank Martin talked defensive philosophy. Wiston Bennett talked about his pressing defenses. Tubby Smith mentioned how to attack man to man defenses.

The Nike Pittsburgh Basketball Coaching Clinic notes have always helped me learn about how Coach Martin came up the ranks  since he was a high school coach and you can implement most of his material. Fran Fraschilla says that recruiting is the number priority in running a basketball program so Coach Martin made a HUGE recruiting splash the other day in landing four star guard Perry Dozier. Dozier is a 6-foot-6 combo guard rated 26th overall in 247Sports’ composite rankings. The verbal commitment comes as a surprise since most recruiting experts expect Rick Pitino and Louisville to get him.

Dozier is a playmaker at the guard position, and he should be able to step in immediately and make an impact with his ability in the open floor and his slashing skill in the half-court. Assuming fellow guard Sindarius Thornwell stays with the Gamecocks program for another season, the two should combine to form one of the most lethal offensive backcourts in the SEC.

The Gamecocks finished with a 14-20 record in the 2013-14 season, including only five wins in 18 Southeastern Conference regular-season games. The team ended on a good note, however, earning two wins in the SEC tournament.

The Nike Pittsburgh Basketball Coaching Clinic notes are a great way to learn about the game that you love so dearly and are great reading material. Make sure to look for more clinic notes in the future to help you in your weak coaching areas or to gain a new idea.
