1-4 High Zipper Plays by Wes Kosel
This playbook features four set plays out of a 1-4 high set using a zipper action. A 1-4 high set can be a great way to space the floor and open up back door opportunities. The bigs at the high post can also set screens, move out easily to the wing to set ball screens, and score from the high post area. The zipper action is common with professional and college teams right now, and usually has a guard/wing cutting up the lane line off of a down screen from the big. Once the cutter has the ball off of the zipper cut, a number of actions can occur. Many teams will go into a ball screen from this action, but as you will see in the playbook the guard can drag to the left side of the floor, down screens or cross screens can be set for cutters, and many more options can be utilized.
1-4 High Zipper Plays
1-4 High Double Zipper
The cutter in this play uses a double zipper screen to get the ball at the top of the key. 5 then sets a down screen for 4 at the right elbow.
1-4 High Dribble Zipper
2 gets the ball off of the zipper cut and dribbles left as 5 sets a down screen for 3. This play can open up the cutter or the post inside.
1-4 High Zipper
This is the classic zipper/pick and roll action followed with a roll/replace by 5 and 4.
1-4 High Zipper Rub
2 makes a shallow zipper cut around 4 to get the ball. As 2 pulls the ball left, 1 cuts off of a screen from 5 and 3 cuts off of a screen from 4. The two screens force the defense to guard both shooters at the same time with limited help.
