Vance Walberg Texas 222 by T.K. Smith

Coaches, as the preseason approaches for many high school and junior high programs, I wanted to share a great full court drill with you all.  Texas 222 is straight from Vance Walberg that he uses to implement the Attack Offense.  It’s a full court 2 on 1 disadvantage break with a helper coming from behind on defense.  Then it immediately turns into a 2 on 2.  The catch is that after the 2 on 1, the defense (which now becomes offense) must inbound the ball to one offensive player against two defensive players.

This is a great drill for early in the season because 1. It gets the kids up and down the court.  2. It teaches transition offense and transition defense. 3. It works on your full court pressure (in denying the inbounds pass) and how to play against pressure (when inbounding the ball).  And just as an added bonus, 4. It’s disguised conditioning!

Coach T.K. Smith is currently the Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistant at his alma mater, University of Central Arkansas, which competes at the NCAA Division 1 level in the Southland Conference.  Prior to Central Arkansas, Coach Smith served as Assistant Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Ecclesia College (NCCAA D1) where he primarily worked with the guards, assisted in recruiting efforts, and was in charge of the team’s strength and conditioning program.
