I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. Tim Miles Nebraska Cornhuskers Offense by Wes Kosel

Attached are 2 plays from Nebraska Head Coach Tim Miles. Miles and the Cornhuskers just finished a 19-13 season finishing 11-7 in conference play. The conference record is much improved from Coach Miles’ first year at Nebraska in which the Cornhuskers finished 5-13. It was a good turnaround for the Nebraska program finishing 10th in the Big Ten in 2013 and finishing 4th this past season with a NCAA Tournament appearance. Before taking the position at Nebraska, Miles coached at Colorado State, North Dakota State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Division II Mayville State.

Tim Miles Nebraska Cornhuskers Offense – Horns Flare to PNR

1 dribbles off of a screen from 5 to the left wing. Once 3 gets to the wing, 3 steps up towards 1 then makes a hard back-cut to the basket. 1 looks inside to 3, but if he isn’t open he continues out to the corner. 4 sets a flare screen for 5. 1 looks to pass to 5, but if he isn’t open 4 sets a ball-screen for 1. 1 and 4 play a pick-and-roll on the left side of the floor with spot up shooters on the right side of the floor.

1 passes to 2 on the wing then 4 cuts to the opposite low post. 2 looks inside to 4 posting up, but if he isn’t open 2 passes to 5 stepping out to the top of the key. Once 5 has the ball, 1 loops around 4 to the basket. 5 looks inside to 1. If 1 isn’t open, he continues out to the corner and 3 moves in to the elbow. 2 screens down for 4 who cuts up for a shot or a dribble hand-off from 5. Once 5 has the ball, 3 sets a screen just inside the top of the key and 3 rolls to the basket.

Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Doug Novak at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Kosel joined the staff at Bethel after serving two seasons at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. The Bartlesville, OK native is also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and taught weight training and aerobic fitness courses while coaching at Texas Lutheran. He has coached AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, University of Houston, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
