Single Stack Offense Playbook by Wes Kosel

Bo Ryan Wisconsin Badgers Offense

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Single Stack Offense Playbook by Wes Kosel

Here are 14 plays using the single stack offense formation. Plays 1 & 2 use a single stack offense at the top of the key, and plays 3-14 use a single stack at the low block. The single stack can be used against teams that pressure and deny the pass to the wing. Cutting to the wing from the stack can create the space needed to get open. Also, you can change up which player cuts off of the stack to throw off the defense. Another option is to use the stack as a double screen. All of these plays can be tweaked to fit your offense and personnel. Try different players in the stack and find what works for you.

Single Stack Offense #1: Single stack high to a double screen at the low post. Scoring options with a cutter to the basket and a shot at the top of the key.

Single Stack Offense #2: Single stack high to a shuffle cut.

Single Stack Offense #3: Staggered screen on the wing for a shot at the free-throw line.

Single Stack Offense #4: Back screen to a shuffle cut.

Single Stack Offense #5: Two options looping around the stack at the low post. Opens up a shot in the lane.

Single Stack Offense #6: High ball-screen to scoring options in the lane off of the low stack.

Single Stack Offense #7: Cross screen and a high ball-screen to a lob on the back side.

Single Stack Offense #8: The single stack serves as a double flex screen. After the flex cut has cleared, the bottom man in the stack loops around for shot. If the flex cut isn’t initially open, he can loop back around the stack as well.

Single Stack Offense #9: The single stack again serves as a double flex screen. The point guard takes the ball to the wing off of a ball-screen and looks to the 4 to reverse the ball for a shot.

Single Stack Offense #10: The point guard attacks the elbow and looks for both players in the stack cutting.

Single Stack Offense #11: The bottom man in the stack runs up off of a down screen to receive the ball. Once he has the ball, a staggered baseline screen opens up a shot in the corner.

Single Stack Offense #12: Back-screen to a post-up.

Single Stack Offense #13: Screen the screener action for a shot.

Single Stack Offense #14: Down screen to a shot at the free-throw line.
