How can your players profit from less time in the gym rather than more? National Coach of the Year Phil Martelli’s skill development philosophy is based on three things: speed, repetition, and building. In this DVD, you will see how Coach Martelli implements this philosophy in every series of drills that he introduces to players. He believes that with a well-devised plan, players can work on their skills and actually benefit from less time in the gym, and not more. With Martelli, it is truly about the quality of time spent that is more important than the quantity of time.
From ball handling to shooting, Coach Martelli provides simple and effective drills that any player can use on their own in the gym by themselves without having to spend four to five hours in the gym. This 40 minute workout will develop all of the major skills needed on the offensive end for any level of player.
Coach Martelli starts out with a basic ball handling drills anyone can do at their home, in the gym, or on the playground and adds new moves to continue pushing players to improve. Coach uses on court demonstrators to show you nine ball handling drills on the move or stationary to help improve the vision of your basketball players. Martelli emphasizes that basketballs should be flying around as quickly as possible in order to improve your skill. Players must move at game speed in order to maximize their development.
Once your players have built their ball handling skills, Coach Martelli adds two sections of shooting drills designed to build on the move ball handling skills and improve creative lay-up finishing around the rim. By placing value on finishing around the rim, your players will be forced to focus on their lay-ups as they move at game speed to attack the rim. In order to add another dimension to your players game, Coach Martelli incorporates floater shooting into his progressive skill development so your players can surprise the defense. Players will maximize the number of reps they get by constantly pushing themselves to move at the level they play during a game.
During Coach’s second section of shooting, your players will place an emphasis on their form and game spot shooting as they focus on the number of shots they make rather than how many shots they shoot. Coach Martelli demonstrates six different shooting drills that makes players accountable for themselves. Coach demonstrates three different foul shooting contests where players earn points based on whether they swish, hit the rim, or use the backboard to finish their shot.
Coach Martelli shows you how to incorporate speed and repetition into your drills while building upon each other throughout the workout. This skill development workout will help out any player or coach at all levels create a great in-season, off-season, or camp setting workout.
