Mike Young Wofford Terriers Corner Pin Series

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

NCAA Tournament Dave Rose Brigham Young Set Plays by Wes Kosel

Attached are two plays from Tuesday night’s game between BYU and Ole Miss. BYU got out to a fast start scoring 49 points in the first half off of 57.1% shooting from the field and 66.7% shooting from 3-point range. Chase Fischer and Tyler Haws combined to shoot 11 for 21 from behind the arc for the game. In the first play, Coach Rose uses multiple actions to get scoring looks from 3-point range and near the paint. The play starts with 2 (Haws) sprinting on a back-cut and then cutting to the corner. Haws does a great job of setting up his defender to get open looks on the perimeter. In the second play, BYU spreads out the Ole Miss defense by putting shooters around the perimeter. Once 2 (Haws) has the ball, 5 sets a back-screen for 4 (Collinsworth) who cuts to the rim for a lob.

The play starts with 4 cutting up from the block to the elbow. 1 passes to 4 and 2 makes a hard back-cut. 5 sets a weak side down screen for 3 on the left wing. If 2 isn’t open on the back-cut, he continues out to the corner off of 5’s screen. 4 passes to 3 who looks to pass to 2 for the shot. If 2 isn’t open, he looks for 4 cutting off of 5’s screen to the basket or to 5 flashing high post.
