NABC International January Playbook by Wes Kosel
Attached you will find three plays featured in the January issue of the NABC International Newsletter. The playbook includes two plays from Coach Kevin Stallings (Vanderbilt) and one from Shaka Smart (formerly VCU). The plays were featured in a clinic by Alan Lambert at a PDS Clinic during the Final Four Convention in 2011.
NABC International January Playbook – Vanderbilt Triple Curve Stagger Line
This play can be used at the end of the game with 4-5 seconds left. It is also useful if you have a timeout. 4 starts with the ball out of bounds as 3, 1, 2, and 5 line up outside of the 3-point line. Option 1: 1 cuts off of 2 and 5 to the right side of the floor and looks to get the ball and call a timeout. Option 2: After 1 clears the screen, 2 cuts off of a screen from 3 towards the left sideline.
NABC International January Playbook – Vanderbilt Stagger Circle
This play can be used with no timeouts and the ball 3/4 or 1/2 deep on the sideline. With 2-3 seconds left in the game, your players need to be aware of how much time he/she has to get a shot off. Option 1: 1 curls around the triple screen from 2, 5, and 3. Option 2: 2 doubles back after screening for 1 and cuts off of 5 and 3. Option 3: 3 flares to the left wing off of a screen from 5.
NABC International January Playbook – VCU Quick Slip
This play can be used at the end of the game with 7-10 seconds left. 1 starts with the ball out of bounds as 4 lines up on the elbow, 3 in the lane, and 5 on the block. 4 screens for 3 as 5 steps out to the weak side corner. If x4 and x3 attempt to switch, 4 slips to the rim for an easy lay-up.
