Billy Donovan Florida Gators Dribble Hand-Off Play

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Leon Rice Boise Cross Post Set Play

The Boise State Bronocs have become a well known team since Leon Rice arrived from Gonzaga. Since his arrival, the Broncos have established a dominant home court advantage, played near the top of the Mountain West Conference, and had their first at large selction to the NCAA Tournament.

The Leon Rice Boise Cross Post Set Play is a nice post entry set run off a shallow dribble entry guard-to-guard out top. The FT line screen at the end can lead to a 3 pt shot or if the defense jumps the screen a slip action for the screener or a kick-out to either the corner or wing for an open shot.

Boise State has 3 players from Australia on their roster and 1 player from Latvia. The Broncos have an international flavor about them. They are all able to score when they use the Leon Rice Boise Cross Post Set Play.

Thus far, the Broncos are undefeated this season and have a date looming in Lexington with the Wildcats.

Last season, Boise State University had some good wins against teams like Creighton (Doug McDermott), UNLV (Anthony Bennett), Colorado State, and San Diego State. They also played Michigan State very close last year in East Lansing with a score of 74-70.

Boise State is undefeated this year and they had their most challenging game when they faced Idaho in a 2 point win at the Centurylink Arena in Boise. They have played NAIA Carroll College and Portland State recently and won both. Tonight they will face Kentucky’s fabulous freshman in Lexington. Kentucky has reached the Elite Eight in three of John Calipari’s four full seasons. This year, Kentucky is ranked third in the nation with four true freshman who have started all nine games. They are the team’s top four scorers too.
