Juan Orenga Spanish Way Offense
They are always looking to run on the offensive end
When this is not possible, they do not want to back the ball out and call a play, they want to flow right into their offense
Transition
• 1,2,3 are able to push the ball ahead on a rebound
• Wings sprint wide to corners
• Non-rebounding big runs to rim and then posts on ball side
• Rebounding big is the trailer
• PG wants to be looping uphill as he catches the outlet pass
All of the following actions are run at the discretion of the players upon their read of the situation
Action 1:
• PG hit ahead to wing, wing feeds the rim runner who has now posted up on the ball side block
Action 2:
• Wings cross, low block post screens for the guard coming out his side
o Post screening guard out must occur at same time as the drag screen up top
• As wings cross, trailer and PG enter drag ball screen action
• Low block post player blasts across lane after screening on the wing cross
• Trailer rolls to the rim after drag PNR with PG
Action 3:
• Wings cross
• PG reverses ball through the trailer
• Trailer reverses ball to weakside wing
• Trailer and weakside wing play wing PNR
• Weakside low post player lifts up to long elbow position
• Wing coming off PNR hits lifted post player
• 1st guard on ball side wing back door cuts and can fill same side corner
• Post with ball and 2nd guard on ball side perform DHO action and roll
Action 4:
• Same transition as previously stated, but both post players are running behind the ball
• Poor shooting big sets drag ball screen for PG
• Best shooting big gets opposite the ball at the long elbow
• PG hits ahead to lifted post player, that post players first look is into the big that rolled no posting up
• If that option is not there, there will be a DHO on the ball side with the trailer and the left wing player
• Trailer rolls to the rim, post at the block lifts to the elbow
• Guards on opposite side exchange
• Then you can have the first guard back door and DHO with second guard on that side
Action 5:
• Trailer decides to cut to low block on the break
• PG centers the ball
• Strong side guard cuts underneath post players to the corner (this is the player you read, he can go either way and the opposite wing cuts accordingly)
• Weak side guard cuts over top to the long elbow
• PG passes to guard coming out the left side and cuts to the opposite corner
• Ball side big comes out for wing PNR
• Opposite wing lifts to make self pass available
Closing thoughts:
• The first thing that you must teach players to do is how to play and read various situations, it is a messy game so they need to know how to adapt and play
• Make the easy plays, do not make it harder than it has to be
• The shots you practice must be the shots you take in the game – the drills you do must correlate with the shots you get in your offense
