Jim Boeheim 2-3 Match-Up Zone Notes

Jim Boeheim is regarded as one of the best college basketball coaches.  Boeheim has had 29 NCAA Tournaments, five Big East Tournament Titles and three Final Fours, including the 2003 National Championship Title.

The 2-3 Match-Up Zone and Jim Boeheim are a 36 year mainstay at Syracuse.  He used that defense to rival Georgetown and UConn and become a power in the Big East Conference for decades.

When it comes to NBA Talent, Syracuse has been cranking out pro talent for years.  Jim Boeheim has coached Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Coleman, and Rony Seikaly whom all had terrific NBA careers.  He also coached players like Hakim Warrick, Billy Owens and Wesley Johnson, who all had solid NBA careers.  Syracuse runs an offensive style that isn more NBA Driven, but his matchup zone often leaves players not prepared for the NBA defense.

Jim Boeheim is one of the most loved coaches at Syracuse and larger than life in that area.  He is a source of pride for most New Yorkers.  Jim Boeheim also had a sense of pride last night when Dion Waiters was selected the 4th overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft.

Dion Waiters is more ready for the NBA than any other guard I’ve ever had.  He doesn’t think that anyone will be able to guard him unless his last name is Westbrook. We will have to see if Coach Boeheim is right and it all works out for Dion Waiters.
