Fotios Katsikaris Greece Chin Motion by Adam Spinella
The FIBA World Championships or World Cup is a great place to pick up X’s and O’s. With tons of different perspectives and talents, you always will find a few new takes on traditional offenses that we see here in the States. For the FIBA World Cup this summer, Greece and coach Fotios Katsikaris had an interesting wrinkle to add to the traditional backscreen “Chin” offense that many college programs will run.
4 loops around 5 for the entry in the high post, and 1 passes to him. 5 then sets a back screen for 1 to go to the rim – the beginning of the chin action. If 1 doesn’t get the pass back from 4, he engages in a dribble handoff with 2 on the wing, while 3 curls over 5 and 1 comes back underneath 5 to the wing to get the reversal.
5 then raises to set a middle ball screen for 1. 3 clears to the corner after his loop cut, and 4 flares in for 2 to the wing. This creates a great slip opportunity for 4. The movement is fairly static to separate sides of the floor after the initial back screen; it keeps it in two-man and three-man games on each side of the floor.
