Derek Fisher New York Knicks Triangle Offense on Speed

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Derek Fisher New York Knicks Triangle Offense on Speed

The NBA better be ready for the Derek Fisher New York Knicks Triangle Offense on “Speed” this season. Derek Fisher took time when he was out in Las Vegas to tweak some of their triangle offense. The triangle offense needed to be souped up and adapted to the modern day NBA especially with the three point line. Here are some new wrinkles that Derek Fisher came up with like using the speed ball element from Mike D’Antoni. The main idea of this new offense will be to race up the court and try to get an easy bucket, before diving into the cuts of the triangle offense. The Derek Fisher New York Knicks Offense will have more pick and rolls added to it at the beginning of each possession.

The Derek Fisher New York Knicks Triangle Offense will have guys that are playing a lot faster and doing some different things on the court. They will want to run first and push the ball after a miss. If they can’t get that then they will run a drag screen or go into the triangle offense.

Jerian Grant is known as a pick-and-roll point guard, and 19-year-old Kristaps Porzingis is known to have set picks all across Spain and has been doing the same here. The Derek Fisher New York Knicks Triangle Offense will have a lot of screen and roll into it now. Derek Fisher is taking a page out of Steve Kerr’s Playbook and going to run a hybrid offense that contains triangle principles and a piece of the Mike D’Antoni Up tempo offense.

Phil Jackson believed that last season’s squad picked up on the triangle offense, but they were running it like robots and found out that some of the Knicks thought it was too much work. The Triangle Offense relies on constant hard cuts and quick passes. Most of the guys now don’t want to change the way that they have always played and that is running isolation and screen and roll plays. The triangle offense have been laughed at in some NBA circles, because it de-emphasizes the popular three point shot, but the Derek Fisher New York Knicks Triangle Offense will have some Fisher Favor this season.
