Bob Huggins West Virginia Mountaineers Set Plays by Wes Kosel
Here are 2 set plays from Coach Bob Huggins. Huggins just completed his 7th year at West Virginia. Before arriving in Morgantown, Huggins coached at Kansas State, Cincinnati, Akron, and Walsh. In 32 years he has only had 3 losing seasons. He has won everywhere he has been, and has won over 60% of his games at each program. He boasts an impressive 71% win percentage for his career, and ranks 3rd amongst active Division 1 coaches in total wins (740). He is behind only Mike Krzyzewski (983 wins) and Jim Boeheim (948 wins). Although the Mountaineers have struggled since joining the Big 12 in 2012, I expect Huggins to get them back on track and back in the NCAA tournament soon.
Bob Huggins West Virginia Mountaineers Set Plays – Guard Post-Up
This play starts in a 2-1-2 formation with 5 in the middle of the floor. 2 cuts up from the corner to the wing and gets the ball from 1. 2’s first look is to penetrate baseline with the open floor. If 2 doesn’t have anything, he passes back to 1 and cuts off of a screen from 5. 1 looks to pass directly to 2 or can pass to 4 for a better angle on the pass. If 2 isn’t open on the cut, 1 passes to 5 on the wing. 5 looks inside to 2 posting up.
Bob Huggins West Virginia Mountaineers Set Plays – Stagger Lob
This play starts with the point guard and 2-guard up top, 5 in the middle of the floor, and 4 and 3 on the blocks. 4 cuts up the lane then pops out to the wing. 1 passes to 4. Once 4 has the ball, 2 cuts off of a screen from 5 to the ball-side low post. 4 looks inside to 2, but if he isn’t open 2 moves out to the corner to clear the lane. 5 and 3 set a staggered back-screen for 1 who cuts to the basket looking for the lob pass from 4.
