Billy Donovan Florida Gators Man Set Plays

Today’s coaching notes are brought you by Anthony Elias, MensBasketballHoopScoop.com contributor and assistant men’s basketball coach at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA

Anthony has shared the Billy Donovan Florida Gators Man Set Plays used in their second round NCAA tournament win over the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Included in this Florida Gator playbook are four half court man to man plays and two baseline out of bounds man plays.
Two of the Billy Donovan Florida Gators Man Set Plays are out of a 1-4 low baseline set, one set gets the Gators a high/low look with their 4 man at the top of the key making the pass or taking the shot with their 5 man down on the block. The second 1-4 low set is initiated with a 5 man setting a ball screen on their point guard with their 4 man either setting a second ball screen for the point guard or screening the 5 man’s defender after a hard hedge on the ball screen. This set resulted in an open 3 for Florida’s 4 man after he popped out on the perimeter and their point guard looked to hit the crack back off his drive into the middle.

The remaining half court sets were out of horns set and high double stack. The horns set concluded in a side pick the picker action and the double high stack allowed the Gators to get a late layup off of a 2-5 double screen for their point guard.
The baseline out of bounds sets are set in a box and a double stack. Both sets are designed to their best perimeter player an outside shot.
