I have been a HUGE fan of Coach Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators since the Teddy Dupay era of shooting all those threes. I personally think that Billy Donovan is the man that they Orlando Magic should try to again. He has won two National championships with the Florida Gators and taken them to four Final Fours and recently went to the Elite Eight four consecutive years. He is great at skill development, because he is churning out NBA players Donovan has coached Atlanta Hawk Al Horford, Washington Wizard Bradley Beal, Chicago Bull Joakim Noah, Cleveland Cav Mike Miller, Golden State Warriors David Lee and Marreese Speights, Memphis Grizzly Nick Calathes, Houston Rocket Corey Brewer, Dallas Maverick Chandler Parsons, San Antonio Spur Matt Bonner and Miami Heat Udonis Haslem. There is a former Gator present on nine of the current sixteen NBA playoff teams.

If Coach Donovan sticks in college basketball then he will have a chance to be one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time. Coach Donovan would be a great fit for the Orlando Magic since he is use to coaching young men, and almost kids. The Magic consist of a roster full of guys that are still kids themselves. The Magic have veterans Channing Frye and Ben Gordon but out of their eight players that have played the most minutes the other six are 24-year old Nikola Vucevic, 22-year old Tobias Harris, 20-year old Elfrid Payton, 22-year old Victor Oladipo, 22-year old Evan Fournier and 24-year old Kyle O’Quinn.

It’s just a thought of mine. I would give Coach Billy Donovan another look if I was an NBA GM. He is great about getting the best out of young talent plus the Orlando Magic don’t have any veteran players that would try to run over this future NBA Rookie Head coach.

Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Andy Partee at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Kosel joined the staff at Colorado College after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. The Bartlesville, OK native is also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a certified personal trainer (NSCA-CPT), and taught weight training and aerobic fitness courses while coaching at Texas Lutheran. He has coached AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, University of Houston, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
