Wes Kosel will enter his first season as an Assistant Coach at Augustana University under Tom Billeter in 2016-2017. Kosel came to Sioux Falls after two season at Colorado College as the lead assistant. Kosel, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, served as an assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran University from 2012-2014. Kosel graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He also has a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston. While attending Kansas, Kosel served as an assistant coach at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. A life-long student of the game, Kosel honed his coaching skills by working summer camps for various programs in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and New Mexico. Kosel also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer, both of which are certifications earned through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Kosel and his wife, Molly, live in Colorado Springs.

Bill Self Kansas Jayhawks Zone Sets by Wes Kosel

Attached are three zone set plays used by Kansas Jayhawks Head Coach Bill Self during the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Self just completed his 12th year as Head Coach of the Jayhawks and 22nd overall as a head coach. He has won over 75% of his games in his career and has 559 wins. Self played at Oklahoma State from 1981-1985. He started his career as an assistant at Kansas (1985-1986) and Oklahoma State (1986-1993) before taking over as a Head Coach at Oral Roberts in 1993. Self then coached at Tulsa and Illinois for 6 years. He led Tulsa, Illinois, and Kansas to Elite 8 appearances and won a National Championship at Kansas in 2008.

1 passes to 3 as 4 moves across the lane. 3 passes back to 1 as 5 screens the middle zone defender. 4 loops around 5 looking for the pass from 1 to score at the basket.

1 dribbles right pushing 3 to the corner. As 3 moves towards the corner, 2 loops around 4, into the lane, and back out to the perimeter to replace 1. 1 \quickly passes to 2 as 5 and 4 screen the bottom zone defenders. 3 sneaks in from the corner behind the screens for a lob pass from 2 for a dunk.

1 has the ball in the slot as 2 runs across the floor around a double-screen from 4 and 5. 1 looks to pass to 2 in the corner for a shot. If it isn’t there, 5 screens down on the middle zone defender. 1 passes to 4 for a shot.

Wes Kosel just completed his first year as an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Andy Partee at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Kosel joined the staff at Colorado College after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University and one season at Haskell Indian Nations University. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. The Bartlesville, OK native is also a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a certified personal trainer (NSCA-CPT), and taught weight training and aerobic fitness courses while coaching at Texas Lutheran. He has coached AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, USA Basketball, University of Houston, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
