My first basketball contributor which landed in NCAA Division 1 and now works for HoopGroup. He just sent me a Shooters | “How they get their shots” Playbook. You have to check it out!!!
Hope all is well. A little x’s and o’s for you this morning- I took a look at the NCAA’s top 3-point shooters (in terms of makes for the 2010-2011 season) and really looked at how they got their shots. Included as an attachment in this email are 26 set plays I pulled from watching this tape, but it was interesting to note the different ways these elite shooters got their shots. Within this group of elite shooters, they each went about getting their looks differently. Some used their absurd range to find their clean looks (Battle & Goudelock); Some made a killing off getting open looks after the ball went into the post (Diebler & Jimmer); Some used their quick-trigger release to get their shot off even when it didn’t seem like they were open (Preston Knowles); Some made a killing shooting behind ball screens (Bryson Johnson from Bucknell, Jimmer & Kevin Foster from Santa Clara); Some made a killing run off screen after screen (Zach Filzen from Buffalo, Goudelock); Some made a killing on sliding and shaping to their teammates penetration (Diebler!).
