Attack and React Offense: What to do if your cut is taken away?

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

In the Attack and React I teach players to pass and cut, looking for a give and go opportunity. After giving up a couple of back door opportunities the defense will eventually adjust. One way they may adjust is by sagging in and getting physical with the cutter. I am not a big believer in “fighting” for position on offense. Simply take what the defense gives you and MAKE THEM PAY! Here is one of my favorite phases of The Attack and React, the curl cuts phase. This phase gives you great options if the defense tries to get physical on cuts.
